How Can We Prevent Another Civil War in the USA?, XVI

In order to prevent another civil war, the national language of the the USA must be improved and improved continually. In the 1920s, a number of Western world linguists discovered that every national language contains symbols that must be given a precise meaning. Accordingly, our sense-data are primarily symbolic. This discovery is reported in "Philosophy in a New Key" by Susanne K. Langer.

What is the impact of this discovery? One impact is the way religions interpret scriptures and teach. This teaching becomes a major problem if a scripture has been translated from one national language to another. Another impact is the way we develop our minds. The godless scientists say that our minds develop from our ancestors. To them, the mind is not a thing but is phenomena of the brain. On the other hand, the godly scientists say that our mind is a thing that self-develops as a Spirit. I disagree with the godless scientists. An example of how a Spirit develops might be helpful. For instance, the mind of two young boys can develop differently. In a ghetto, a young boy will develop the habit to 'duck' when Mother's boyfriend swings at him. But, in a suburb , a young boy will develop the habit to find 'ducks' at a pond.

In the 1990's, when I was working on the nation's crime problem at the U.S. Department of Justice, before I retired, I came to the conclusion that people can develop a criminal career by developing a poor symbolic language. After I retired, I studied the teachings of Jesus Christ and found that Jesus taught that evilness originates 'within' us. (See Mark 7:15-23) The within thing
is our mind. So I disagree with those godless scientists who say that criminals are born.

I say that the school system must be restructured so that the development of symbolic language by all students become major events. If schools are structured properly, the development of symbols should occur in every course offered in school.

"To them, the mind is not a thing but is phenomena of the brain. "

Why don't you pay attention? The word 'phenomena' is plural, you should have used the singular: phenomenon. This is the third time this error is pointed out to you. Don't you ever learn?

But I am glad you wrote this: "I agree with the godless scientists."

    Response to Carole Merzenberger,

How can mind be singular when it is not a thing?

Pay attention! I didn't say that mind is singular. How on earth did you get that idea? I merely pointed out that you made a grammar mistake when you wrote "To them, the mind is not a thing but is phenomena of the brain ". In proper English you can't say that "mind is phenomena of the brain". That is like saying "mind is mirrors of the brain". For phrases like these you need a singular noun: "mind is a phenomenon of the brain".

I know you are old and your eyesight is waning, but you should pay attention to remarks made by people who are more intelligent than you. We are trying to teach you, so it would be only polite for you to listen.

    Carole Merzenberger,

I do not know any person who has developed and uses a perfect symbolic language.

Furthermore, the English language has many problems. And you and all other godless scientists have not proved anything associated with the world theory of mterialism.

You will not convince me that you are more intelligent than any other person. Under God, a shoemaker is an intelligent as a scientist.

To me, the concept of iIntelligence is troublesome for me as a believer because God does not place one person above or below any other person. The puropse of everything in God's world is necessary. Your use of intelligence tells me that you are a racist.

You haven't convinced me on making the statement 'mind is ? of the brain.' I see mind only as 'a unity in a diversity.' I cannot see mind as a oure singularity.

Jesus, how stupid you are! I bet you don't even have a PhD.

One more time: you made a grammar mistake. You used a plural noun where you should have used a singular noun. I will treat you like a child now, because you seem to have the brain of a child, and show you a series of similar examples. Here we go:

Wrong: man is creatures of God (plural)
Right: man is a creature of God (singular)

Wrong: The USA is the best countries in the world (plural)
Right: The USA is the best country in the world (singular)

Wrong: Mind is phenomena of the brain (plural)
Right: Mind is a phenomenon of the brain (singular).

Got it now? If not, you should seek professional help.

    Carole Merzenberg,

I don't suggest that you should seek professional help because professional help for humans can often be questioned.

Look at this again. For example, I say,

'of a thing' must mean something plural.

    I can't say,

'of a thing' cannot mean something singular, otherwise the 'thing' and the 'something' form an identity.

As you can see arguing with George is an exercise in futility but having a PhD does not mean superior intelligence. Some of the dumbest people I've met have whole alphabets after their name. True intelligence involves many factors, most of which are not found in schools.

    Response to Dave,

Having a PHD does not mean superior intelligence today because colleges and universities do not teach theology or the latest physical sciences. Without theology and the latest physical sciences, a PHD does not know 'what to practice.'

I never becane a PHD. But in the 1960s, I had to retrain PHDs in electrical engineering because they were outdated.

Today's PHDs are outdated. I do not argue woth today's PHDs. But I teach them if they are interested.

Self knowledge is the only way to stay updated.

    George
