A George Shollenberger Report on Citizen Obligations in the US Civil Society Under God
1. A citizen is obligated to be a member of the US civil society and its laws, which must be obeyed to avoid punishment. Since each US citizen gives rights to its government, the freedom of each US citizen is limited.
2. A citizen is obligated to serve as a member of US government as required by the US laws.
3. A citizen is obligated to recognize God as a reality but is not obligated to be a member of any religion. Since the open practice of atheism is a criminal act, atheism is punishable.
4. A citizen, who is a member of the US government, must consider God in all governmental activities and decisions.
5. A citizen, who is a member of the US government, must function for th US government for the common good of the US civil society at all times. (The common good is created and achieved with national goals for all citizens.)
6. All citizens must function for the common good at all times
7. In all schools, young US citizens must open each day by saying the Pledge of Allegiance which states "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

How do you do believe a thought crime, such as atheism, would be policed? How could you tell who recognized God and who did not? What would the punishment for not believing in God be?
At 9:51 PM, George Shollenberger said…
dovie,
Thoughts of any kind cannot be policed. Policing of any law is always by detecting the act of a crime. There is no punishment for not believing in God unless this belies are reflected in punishable acts.
Why would a person not believe in God when the evidence of God's existence is so strong?
At 10:27 PM, Dovie said…
I believe the answer to that question is that some people disagree that the evidence is so strong. Many scientists say the same thing about evolution, after all.
What do you consider to be the "open practice of atheism"? Would stating simply "I do not believe in God" count? How should that be punished?

dovie,
Many scientists do not understand the 'eye of the mind." Mind is a sixth sense only to man, as Plato teaches in his Parmenides.
God is a higher being. He is not like finite beings, which we can sense with our five senses. Finite beings have phenomena. With phenomena we can determine the relations between finite beings. God is an infinite being. One cannot determine the relations between finite beings and an infinite being. With proper teaching, all humans will be believers in God.
I don't think that atheists will ever be punished. Once God is taught properly, atheists will either become believers or will not have many friends and will find it hard to find a job.

Please show me the law on the books that states that Atheism is criminal. Whiel you are at is show me the laws that state that we must recognize a God and consider a God in all government activities.
None of your normal hokus pokus here George, I want laws on the books right now. You must cite the law. Anything but that is an outright lie.

Hi Robert,
You have asked a good question because atheists throughout the world must understand my answer. So,here in my answer.
First, in the USA the body of US laws consists of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and all laws legislated by Congress.
The Declaration of Independence directly says (many different ways) that the USA is a nation under God.
The Constitution also says indirectly that the the USA is a nation under God. The indirect way is found in the Preamble and the words "... in order to form a more perfect Union, ...' The only way to determine whether the US government is 'forming a more perfect Union' is to determine whether the USA is becoming more and more like God, who is the only perfect thing we know. All the people of the USA must know more and more about God, as time passes, so they can become like God.
To be an atheist is, by definition, to not believe in God.
In the USA, an atheist is a person who thinks and then acts against God. So, a person who acts against God is violating the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutionc. Under the laws of the USA, an atheist is a criminal.

That is, with all undue respect, self-evident bullshit.
"In the USA, an atheist is a person who thinks and then acts against God."
Bullshit again. An atheist is merely someone who doesn't believe in the existence of any god or gods. An atheist doesn't act against God. Why would he, if he doesn't even believe in the big sky daddy?

monica kupfernagel,
What you say is self-evident bul___is the only way the performance of government can be measured. Apparently, you have no experienc in mesuring techniques.
If an atheist 'acts' against a US law that says that God exists and and this atheistt believes that God does not exist, an atheist is still violating a US laws and is thus a criminal.
Your words place atheists above the law.

The Declaration of Independence has no legal authority. Its purpose was to formally break ties with Britain. Additionally, it makes to reference to a Christian God. It only says "Creator" which may cover several difference concepts from "nature" to the Christian God, to the Deist God. The declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson who is generally regarded as a Deist, and had these wise words to say about coercive Christianity:
"Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one-half the world fools and the other half hypocrites."
He also says:
"It is not to be understood that I am with him [Jesus] in all his doctrines. I am a Materialist."
It seems quite unlikely that the Creator spoken of by Jefferson is anything like the God that you belief in, though it's all a moot point as the Declaration has never had any legal authority.

Hi matt,
You must study Jobn Lock's "Second Treatise of Government" edited by Thomas Peardon. Only lawyers who never read this book will telly you that the Declaation of Independence is not a part of the body of US laws.
Didn't you read my June 30, 2007 blog. I did this bolg for thouse people who did not have Locke's social contract.
There are two parties in Locke's social contract. One party is 'society" which is an agreement among US citizens. This agreement is the Declaration of Independence. The second party is 'government,' This agreement connects 'society' to 'government' with the Contitution.
Tell your lawyer friend to do his or her homework.

I have no idea what you are referring to when you tell me to "Tell your lawyer friend to do his or her homework." What friend are you referring to?
John Locke's opinion about the nature of government is irrelevant to the question of whether the Declaration of Independence has, or ever had, legal force in the United States. The Declaration neither proscribes nor prohibits any act, nor does it grant authority to any government body. It simply lists grievances and declares independence.

matt,
I assumed that you talked to a lawyer on this subject. I am sorry.
But, you should read Locke's work because Locke's social contract was used by the founders. A social contract has a minimum of two parties just as business contracts have at least two parties. The two parties are 'society" abnd 'government.' These two parties are related ant thus form a whole.
The Supreme Court has made a major legal error.

Do you happen to know any atheists personally? They are very nice and highly intelligent people. The majority of the Nobel Prize laureates are atheists. How about that, Mister Shollenberger?
At 9:12 AM, George Shollenberger said…
levi stern,
Yes, I know atheists and they are very nice. I was an atheist also at one time. But moral philosophy and natural philosophy are two different fields of thought. A Nobel Prize says nothing about the morality of a person. When I studied moral philosophy, I learned that atheism is a false moral.
